is the author of eleven novels, including Kindred and Parable of the Sower, both published by The Women's Press. She has won the Hugo Award twice, the Nebula Award and the MacArthur 'genius' award. As one of the few African-American women writing science fiction, she has received widespread praise for her exploration of feminist and racial themes.
